Ford introduces an all-new appearance package and a performance-minded update for the 2022 model year. J.C. Lewis has done the research and here is the information.
Mustang, the world’s best-selling sports car, will debut a first-ever Stealth Appearance Package available for the EcoBoost®Premium model, while Mustang GT California Special will offer for the first time ever a GT Performance Package option.
“Since 1965, Mustang has been synonymous with performance and play, and the 2022 model year continues that call with the new Stealth Edition and an updated Cali Special,” said Jim Owens, Mustang brand marketing manager. “Mustang owners have always loved personalizing their ride, and these new flavors of Mustang are ready to inspire and excite new enthusiasts.”
Orders for the 2022 Mustang, including Stealth Edition and California Special, open later this year. Vehicles are due in showrooms in the first quarter of 2022.
First-ever Stealth Edition joins Mustang lineup
Adding even more style to the 310-turbocharged-horsepower Mustang EcoBoost Premium model, the available Stealth Edition Appearance Package stays true to its name, giving customers a more menacing-looking fastback with uniquely blacked-out appointments.
The Stealth Edition Appearance Package features 19-inch Ebony Black-painted aluminum wheels, black pony badges, performance rear wing, black mirror caps and new clear LED taillamp covers, also shared with the new Mustang Ice White Appearance Package. Unique new interior appointments include a matte and gloss black instrument panel badge and lighted sill plate.
“The black accents really give the car a whole new persona, sinister and sporty all at once,” said Owens. “Naturally, the package needed the right name. Stealth Edition says it all.”
The Stealth Edition is available in Atlas Blue, Carbonized Gray, Dark Matter and Shadow Black.
ICE package benefits have found their way to the Stealth Edition Appearance Package Mustang as well. There is expanded availability of the clear LED taillights, which are also part of the Ice White Appearance Package. The lights have been a part of the Mustang lineup in other regions but until now were forbidden fruit for American pony car shoppers who didn’t want to have to purchase them after the fact.
If “stealth” sounds familiar you're not wrong. The Stealth Edition is different from what is often referred to as “Stealth Mode” or “Good Neighbor Mode." Ford announced in 2018 that the 2018 Mustang GT will add a stealth mode to muffle its exhaust so owners won’t disturb the neighbors with the engine’s rumble at night. The idea was born after a testy neighbor called the cops on former Ford vehicle engineering chief Steve von Foerster when his Shelby GT350 Mustang’s engine roar broke the quiet of his suburban Detroit neighborhood one morning. The stealth mode was offered as an active valve performance exhaust option.
Active valve exhaust systems allow drivers to vary the loudness of their exhaust systems to suit their needs. Ford’s active exhaust system is now available, including the EcoBoost.
The Mustang’s active valve exhaust has four settings: Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Track. Quiet is still around 72 decibels, so it’s louder than normal conversation but quiet enough that it’s unlikely to bother your neighbors. On the other hand, Track can get as loud as you would expect a Mustang to be capable of.
Remember too at the end of the summer the Mustang Ice White Edition Appearance Package was also introduced Ford Authority compared. For the Mach-E, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint includes unique Star White mirror caps and wheel lip moldings to ice-out the exterior. Front and center on the grille is an Oxford White pony badge, which also appears between the tri-bar tail lamps. The package adds unique 19-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with Oxford White-painted pockets. Light Space Gray sets the cabin stage, appearing on the seats, center console and door-panel armrests. A Bright Silver hex-patterned instrument panel plus an Oxford White pony badge on the steering wheel add chill to the interior environment.
The Ice White Edition Mustang Coupe is reminiscent of the 1993 Triple White Fox body feature Mustang, the 2022 Mustang coupe Ice White Edition gives customers the option to add even more head-turning style to the world’s best-selling sports car1. Ford made just 1,500 Triple White Fox body feature Mustangs – all convertibles. Thanks to CJ Pony Parts for the reminder.
Available on Mustang EcoBoost® and GT Premium fastback models, the Mustang Ice White Edition comes lacquered exclusively in Oxford White and features unique iced-out tail lamps, plus heritage-inspired 19x9-inch wheels in matching Oxford White with machine-surfaced pockets. Just like on the Ice White Edition Mustang Mach-E, the Ice White Mustang coupe comes with Oxford White pony badges and fender badging.
The black and white interior features Oxford White leather seat inserts front and rear, plus Oxford White leather door panels. An aluminum appliqué on the dash and white accent stitching on the center console, door panels, shifter boot, headrests and more add to the cool cabin environment.
Ice White Edition Appearance Package-equipped Mustang EcoBoost and Mustang GT Premium coupes arrive at dealers in early 2022.
